New regulations regarding vehicle technical inspections have been in effect since November 2017. The main change? The inspection fee is now collected before the inspection begins. Currently, it costs PLN 98. An additional registration fee is PLN 1. Another change concerns vehicles that fail inspections. Information about negative inspection results will be sent to the Central Vehicle Register.
According to the authors, this point is intended to ensure that other diagnosticians have information about why a given vehicle failed its periodic inspection. Legislators want to eliminate cases where drivers visit different stations to obtain a stamp anyway. Drivers looking to buy a used car will be able to check the database to see if the car has had any problems previously detected by diagnosticians, as well as the odometer reading from recent inspections.
Technical inspections are mandatory for all registered vehicles regularly driving on our roads, with the exception of light trailers. After passing the technical inspection, each driver receives an entry in their registration certificate stating the inspection's validity period. Once the period has passed, the vehicle is considered unroadworthy. Driving without a valid inspection can result in a fine.
